Beauty, home & honest new-mom life

The Vanity Drawer Reset

My vanity drawer was a time capsule: mascaras from two apartments ago, a curling iron cord wrapped around a bag of cotton rounds, and somewhere in there, the one concealer I actually use. Getting ready in five minutes is impossible when finding things takes four. This reset took one nap time and it has held, because every category finally has a home.

Vtopmart Clear Drawer Organizers, 25 Pieces

Start here. Four sizes of clear bins that tile together inside the drawer, so lipsticks stand in one, brushes lie in another and the random hair ties finally stop migrating. Measure your drawer first, then play Tetris. The clear sides mean you can see everything at a glance.

Sorbus 6-Drawer Acrylic Makeup Organizer

For the things I use daily, on the counter rather than hidden away. Two stacked pieces with little drawers for the concealer, the brow gel, the tinted sunscreen — the five-minute-face stuff. Everything else goes in the big drawer; this holds the shortlist.

Lifewit Hair Tool Organizer with 4 Cups

The curling iron, the blow dryer and the flat iron used to live in a tangle on the floor by the outlet. Now they stand in metal cups that do not mind a still-warm barrel, cords tucked behind. It freed up half the drawer on its own.

Acrylic Cotton Rounds Dispenser

Cotton rounds in a bag are a mess. Cotton rounds in a clear jar with a lid are a tiny luxury every single morning. It sits next to the sink and I refill it from the big bag once a month.

Okllen Makeup Brush Holder with Lid

Brushes standing up, dust-free, with the lid closed. The three compartments sort face, eye and the random extras. Clean brushes that stay clean is the one upgrade that changed how my makeup actually looks.

The honest version: the drawer still has one junk corner, because I am a person. But the morning routine is back to five minutes, and the old mascaras are in the trash where they belonged two apartments ago.
