The Keepsake Kit for the Months You’ll Forget

Everyone told me to write it down and I thought I would remember. I do not remember. I cannot tell you which week she found her hands. These are the five things I wish someone had put in a box and handed me the week we came home — all low effort, because the whole point is that you are tired.

The Baby Memory Book: Beautiful Modern Baby Book and Scrapbook for Baby’s First Years

A proper book with prompts, which is the only reason mine has anything in it. Blank journals defeated me; fill-in-the-blank lines I can do at 3am with one hand. I keep it on the nursing chair, not a shelf, because a keepsake you have to go get is a keepsake you do not use.

KeaBabies Baby Hand and Footprint Kit, Clay Keepsake Frame (Alpine White)

Air-dry clay, so there is no baking and no mess, and it comes with the frame. Do it earlier than you think — newborn feet are only that size for a few weeks. Press firmly and once; a second press smudges it and you will be sad.

Floral Boho Baby Monthly Milestone Blanket Bohemian Photo Prop

The blanket you lay her on for a monthly photo. I resisted this as too much and now it is my favourite thing in the house, because the size difference month to month is wild and I would not have believed it without the same blanket underneath.

My First Year Photo Frame, 12 Months Baby Picture Frame (Alpine White)

Where those twelve photos end up, instead of on a phone with four thousand others. We filled ours as we went, one a month, and it hangs in the hall. The months you cannot remember are right there in order.

Savor Baby Deluxe Keepsake Box, Memory Organizer, Pink

The hospital bracelet, the first hat, the tiny comb from the grooming kit. All of it was living in a drawer in a grocery bag until this. Compartments and acid-free, so paper things do not go brown.

None of this needs to be done beautifully. Mine has crooked handwriting and one footprint that is mostly a smudge. It still beats the version where I meant to and never did.
