Beauty, home & honest new-mom life

The Charging Corner That Ended the Cord Pile

There was a spot on our kitchen counter where every cable in the house came to die. Two phones, a watch, the baby monitor, earbuds, a tablet, and a tangle of cords that all looked identical and none of which fit the thing you were holding. I gave it one corner, five things and about twenty minutes, and now everything charges in the same place and the counter is a counter again.

Pezin & Hulin Bamboo Charging Station

A bamboo stand with slots for six devices and the charger hidden underneath, so all you see is the phones and the wood. It comes with the short cables, which means no more six-foot cords looping across the counter. It looks like it belongs in the kitchen, which is why it’s still there.

3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand

My phone, my watch and my earbuds on one little stand by the bed, no cables to fumble with at midnight. Set it down, it charges. The phone sits upright so it doubles as a bedside clock. This ended my personal contribution to the pile.

Anker USB-C to USB-C Cables, 3-Pack

Three identical, braided, fast cables that all work with everything. I threw out every mystery cord we owned and replaced them with these, and the arguments about whose cable is whose simply stopped. One for the station, one for the bag, one spare.

D-Line Cable Management Box

The power strip and every adapter live inside this box now, with the cords coming out through the slots in the lid. It hides the ugliest part of any charging setup and, more importantly, keeps the strip out of reach of a crawler who has just discovered outlets.

OHill Adhesive Cable Clips, 16 Pack

Little clips that stick to the back of the counter and the nightstand and hold a cable’s end where you can reach it. No more cord sliding down behind the furniture. Sixteen was enough for the whole house with a few left over for the desk.

The rule that made it stick was simple. Cables live in the corner or in the box, and nothing charges anywhere else. It took about a week for everyone to believe me. The counter has been clear ever since.
